چکیده
A brief review of the ‘disordered local moment’ (DLM) theory of magnetism at finite temperatures is given. This has recently been enhanced so that it includes relativistic (R) effects such as spin-orbit coupling. The relevance of the R-DLM theory for providing an ab-initio account of the temperature dependence of magnetic properties including magnetotransport is stressed. Magnetic anisotropy is discussed in particular. In this context a new magnetic torque based method is described and demonstrated with an application to iron nanoclusters on a platinum substrate. The R-DLM theory is illustrated by a study of the temperature dependence of the magnetic anisotropy of the technologically important FePt alloy in both its magnetically hard L10-ordered and soft cubic compositionally disordered phases. In the frame work of relativistic density functional theory, using full potential local orbital band structure scheme (FPLO), the magnetic properties of single 3d transition metals (3d-TM) adsorbed on 2D hexagonal boron nitride (2D h-BN) are investigated. Binding energies between 3d-TM adatoms and 2D h-BN in three different compositions, local spin magnetic moments of 3d-TM and total spin magne...
متن کاملRare regions and annealed disorder in quantum phase transitions
The Griffiths region that is due to rare regions and the resulting local moments in disordered itinerant quantum magnets, and its influence on the critical behavior, is considered within the framework of an effective field theory. It is shown that the local moments can be described in terms of static, annealed disorder, and the physical consequences of this description are discussed.
متن کاملEffects of rare regions on magnetic quantum phase transitions
Abstract. The Griffiths region that results from rare regions in disordered itinerant quantum magnets, and its influence on the critical behavior, is considered within the framework of an effective field theory. It is shown that local moments destroy the previously found critical fixed point for antiferromagnets. In contrast, the critical behavior of itinerant ferromagnets is unaffected by the ...

The existent of the intrinsic electric dipole moments (EDM) lead to CP violation in a physical system. In the non-relativistic and point like limits, the effects of them in atoms are canceled which is well-known as Schiff screening effects. It is why that the energy shift due to the EDM is proportional to the expectation value of which vanishes in non-relativistic limit. In this paper, using F...
متن کاملBroken Relativistic Symmetry Groups, Toroidal Moments and Superconductivity in Magnetoelectric Crystals
A connection between creation of toroidal moments and breaking of the relativistic crystalline group associated to a given crystal, is presented in this paper. Indeed, if magnetoelectric effects exist, the interaction between electrons and elementary magnetic cells appears in such a way that the resulting local polarization and magnetization break the local relativistic crystalline symmetry. Th...
